Join us for a concert that explores the emotional range of opera, art song, and musical theater—from the elegance of Mozart and Debussy to the drama of Puccini and the lyricism of Broadway classics.Serenna Jones is a Southwest Florida based singer. She received her Bachelor's degree in vocal performance at DePauw University, where she performed leading roles in both opera and musical theater productions. She recently graduated from Florida State University's Opera program with her Master's degree. There she performed in leading roles such as Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Beatrice in Heggie's Three Decembers.

Wingspan is a card-driven, resource-building board game in which players compete to attract birds to their wildlife reserves. Players spend food resources to add birds, which are represented by 170 individually illustrated cards, to the forest, prairie, and wetland habitats on their player boards. We will take a snack and tea break and then we'll head outside to inoculate oak logs with pink oyster spawn. Known for its "perpetuum mobile" character, this work features cascading eighth-note triplets that weave a tapestry of light and shadow, occasionally interrupted by a dramatic, rhythmically driving middle section. The journey continues with a selection of Chopin's Etudes. These pieces redefined the genre, transforming mere technical exercises into profound "tone poems" that demand both acrobatic virtuosity and deep sensitivity, and these studies remain the cornerstone of the romantic repertoire.Shifting to the Southern Hemisphere, we encounter Astor Piazzolla's "Spring" from the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. This "Nuevo Tango" masterpiece captures the grit and passion of the city, opening with a rhythmic fugue that evokes the sudden, surging energy of spring in the urban bustle. Finally, we return to the grand ballroom with the Blue Danube Fantasy, a dazzling transcription of Strauss's waltz that serves as a virtuosic celebration of Viennese charm and orchestral color.Registration required.

Benjamin Dimmitt, conservation photographer will discuss his recent book on Florida's vanishing wetlands  An Unflinching Look: Elegy for Wetlands a deep, peer-reviewed examination of the impact of climate change on the wetlands at the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge on Florida's Gulf Coast, 70 miles north of Tampa.
